Why are these videos hosted at Revver?

A few friends have suggested that more people would see these animations if they were hosted on YouTube. I did look at using YouTube, but I decided that their compression degraded the videos a little too much for my taste. Revver, on the other hand, preserves the original quality a little better, and also offers Quicktime downloads for people who want to see a higher quality version.

I also considered using Our Media, the Internet Archive, or DivX Stage 6. I like the Internet Archive / Our Media idea very much, but again, the quality wasn't quite as good as I was hoping for, and the download times from Internet Archive (Our Media content is hosted at Internet Archive) seemed very long. DivX Stage 6 hosts hi-res videos, and they look pretty good, but they require the viewer to install the (free) DivX player/codec, which is a bit of a hassle.

One might guess that I selected Revver because they share the ad revenues they generate with the content creators. I applaude this, but it wasn't really a factor in my decision. (I've earned something like $0.17 from Revver) Really, it was all about the quality. On the other hand, when Google paid billions of dollars to buy YouTube, I couldn't help feeling that the people who created the videos hosted at YouTube were the ones who really created the value, and they probably ought to have been compensated. Someone became very wealthy as a direct result of the work done by the artists who use YouTube.

So I have nothing against YouTube, Stage 6, or any of the other video hosting sites. They just didn't meet my particular hosting needs. I like them, I'm glad they exist, and I visit them often. Some of my favorites include: Film Chest Vintage Cartoons, the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater, Lasse Gjertsen Cyriak and Katers17

Update: I recently discovered MyToons.com, which offers good fidelity, and also has a HiDef option. In addition, their advertising is less intrusive than Revver's. I've started hosting some of my animations there as well.
