About JukeOla
Kevin writes:
JukeOla is a homebrew MP3 (as well as other formats) music jukebox project that I built as part of my
home automation hobby. It is heavily customized for our house, so I usually don't distribute copies of
JukeOla. The few that I have built for friends and relatives took several days each to configure. For
most people, it would probably be better to use an off the shelf JukeBox rather than porting JukeOla to
another home/computer.
There are now lots of PC-based jukebox applications out there, but when I started JukeOla in 1998 there
were none that even came close to meeting our needs.
Some facts about JukeOla:
- In addition to its primary JukeBox function, Jukeola can act as a CD player, and a CD burner.
- JukeOla automates the CD loading processing by looking up the CD contents on the CDDB internet database.
- My JukeOla installation controls our stereo using the Slinke IR interface. This allows us to select
the input source, volume, radio stations, etc, from the JukeOla screen.
- JukeOla runs on the Linux operating system.
- JukeOla is controlled via web pages served by the Apache web server.
- JukeOla stores songs in MP3 format, with a higher than usual bitrate in order to achieve acceptable
quality.
- In addition to my own programs, JukeOla uses several freeware Unix utilities such as freeamp, wmcd/cda, cdparanoia
- JukeOla uses a customized version of the "bottlerocket" X10 software
- In "headless" server mode, JukeOla will run on computers as slow as Pentium 133.
- When hosting a local "GUI", JukeOla will run on computers as slow as Pentium 233.
some stuff about it there.
