For several years, we found ourselves having to change our email addresses at least once a year as our ISPs came and went and changed names. To address this problem, we finally decided to register a domain name of our own. Then came the hard part: choosing a name. For a long time we found that every idea we came up with was already taken. If we did happen to come across a name that was available, one of us would always veto it. (What is a MonaMoto, anyway?!). So in a desperate attempt to save our marriage, we came up with the idea of coining a new word to use as the name. We wanted it to be something that people could guess the spelling of on the first try, and that we might not get tired of too quickly. We couldn't find a name like that, so we just used telefish.
A web search for the name TELEFISH currently returns about 500 matches. There was a telefish.com which appears to have been a company that sold phone equipment and services; but it seems to have disappeared. There was also an interesting t-shirt company in Germany called Telefish. They seem to be gone as well. There's an Irish radio service called "Radio Telefís Éreann", which sounds a little like "telefish", and there are several people with user IDs based on various permutations of "telefish". We were unaware of the existance of these other telefishes when we registered telefish.net, but we don't really mind sharing part of our name. We trust they don't either.
This section contains things that will only be of interest to our family and friends. Access is restricted because it contains contact information that they might not want available to the world. Here's a look at some of what's in the Family and Friends section:
Private stuff. That is, things that are only useful to Rachelle and Kevin, and are only available on their local network at home. Things like JukeOla, the web desktop, and the home automation stuff.
