Instructions for running
Art Of Illusion (AoI) benchmarks and
submitting results.
Step 1:
Be sure that AoI is installed and working on the system you'll be testing.
Note the versions of AoI and Java that you are using. If you are launching
Java with special commands (such as -Xmx256m) note these as well. Also note
the make and model of your CPU, the amount of memory your computer has, and
the version number of your operating system. Windows users can get information
about the configuration of their PC using the System applet in the
Control Panel. Linux/Unix users can wade through the output of the
dmesg command. Apple users can select About this Mac from
the "apple" menu.
Step 2:
Download the benchmark test scene file by clicking
here.
You may need to right-click and save target as. The name of the file is
map.aoi. For the still image benchmark, we're using a version of
Nathan Ryan's
excellent scene, "Cartografia", available at the Art Of Illusion
gallery. Thanks Nate!
Step 3:
Be sure to stop any other processes that might be competing for CPU time on
the test machine. DO NOT ALTER THE TEST FILE IN ANY WAY.
To run the test:
load the test scene into Art of Illusion by Selecting OPEN from the FILE menu
Select RENDER SCENE from the SCENE menu.
Set the size to 400x300, the antialiasing to Maximum, and enable gloss/translucency
and Soft Shadows. Use the default values for the rest of the options. Render settings
should match the ones depicted in this image.
Render the scene. The result should be an 400x300 image that resembles
the version in the AoI gallery,
however the map in the image will be blank. This is expected.
When AoI is finished rendering, jot down the elapsed time as displayed in the render window.
If possible, run the test several times and submit your average render time.
Step 4:
Enter the results in the form below, and hit the Send Image Results button. Initial
tests have shown that the render time can vary by as much as 4%, so it may be best to
run the test several times, and submit the average value. Please report any problems
by email to info@telefish.net.
Please do not submit results if you are using "beta" or "early access"
software!
