Introduction

This page contains downloadable software for Amiga computers. This software has also been "tested" and appears to work correctly with the UAE Amiga Emulator running under Linux and Windows.

Sculpt 3D and Sculpt-Animate 4D were early (1987) Amiga 3D programs written by Eric Graham and distributed by Byte By Byte Corporation. For a look at what Sculpt was capable of, take a look at this interesting page. Sadly, development stopped and the product is no longer available. But you can get a feel for what it was like by checking out a clone of the interface, available here. After Dr Graham retired, a product based on Sculpt was released, called SoftFX. This product was eventually released as a free, open source project, named OpenFX. One can still detect the Sculpt pedigree in OpenFX, especially in the modeler.

s3d2a4d

s3d2a4d is a plugin for Aladdin 4D that enables importing of Sculpt 3D and Sculpt-Animate 4D .scene files. The tool is able to import the geometry as well as some texturing and shading information. It can also optionally attempt to reconstruct the environment (camera and lighting).

The polygon grouping option will attempt to define a sane set of Aladdin polygon groups based on attributes of the objects. Note that this option is extremely slow. You may want to allow it to run overnight for larger .scene files.

Follow this link to download the plugin.

To use the plugin with your installation of Aladdin 4D, put the downloaded file into the tools directory of your Aladdin 4D installation, and restart Aladdin 4D. s3d2a4d should now show up in your tools window.

s3d2pov

s3d2pov is a standalone utility program for the Amiga that converts Sculpt 3D and Sculpt-Animate 4D .scene files into POV-Ray files.

Sample Files

Here are some examples of what the programs can do. Note that the geometry information translates pretty well, but the different renderers do rather different things with the surfacing information.

demo2.4d is the sample Sculpt scene converted to Aladdin4d image rendered by Aladdin 4D: demoA4d.jpg
